1992 Milwaukee Irish Fest

The Great Ceili Kick-off started the 1992 Milwaukee Irish Fest on August 13.

A special appearance by the Belfast Harp Orchestra was arranged celebrating the Year of the Harp in Ireland, a commemoration of 200 years since the landmark Belfast Harp Festival in 1792.

Other cultural components included the exhibit “Dear Harp of My Country” which explored the harp as a symbol deeply embedded in Irish myth, folklore, history, art & literature. A “Making Merry” exhibit looked at brewing your own beer, and an exhibit on the Irish in Milwaukee was featured.

Entertainers included Arcady, Barley Bree, John MacNally, De Dannan, The Rankin Family, Cherish the Ladies, the McPeakes, Dennis Doyle, Clancy Brothers with Robbie O’Connell, Barleycorn, Danny Doyle, Storm, and The Drovers.

Dancers included Cashel Dennehy Irish Dancers, Mooncoin Ceili Dancers, Trinity Irish Dancers, Caledonian Scottish Dancers, and the Trinity American Irish Dance Company with the Drovers.

The U.S. Steel Great American Hootenany was held on Sunday at the Lienie’s Stage. It included The Limelighters, Tom Paxton and Schooner Fare.
